"MISSING PERSONS"

If you cannot find someone (or yourself) in the Electronic Phonebook and yet you know they work for or attend school at UAB, it is possible that their online directory entry is unlisted, or has been suppressed. Even when suppressed, a person can receive @uab.edu e-mail and use services which require a BlazerID, but their information is not available for search or display to the general public.

You should consider this as a possibility only after you try the search hints and tips to be sure you are not overlooking the listing. Also, if someone just recently (within the past couple of weeks) joined UAB, they may not yet be in the official databases which supply information to the Phonebook.

Entries can be suppressed for several reasons, generally falling into the following categories:

Just like if you try to look up someone who is unlisted in the regular telephone directory, we are not allowed to give you any information about a person whose entry is suppressed, not even to confirm or deny they exist.

If the missing person is you, check your Electronic Phonebook entry by going to the Change Information screen and authenticating with your BlazerID and password. On the screen that follows, it will specifically indicate in the message box if your entry is suppressed or not.

(If you have not registered a BlazerID, now would be a great time to do so — this can be done even if your entry is suppressed — and then go into Change Information from the Phonebook screen.)

Is it someone other than yourself that you cannot find? If you can contact the person directly, encourage them to follow the steps above on their own entry.
